Reverse strain-induced snake states in graphene nanoribbons

چکیده
Strain can tailor the band structures and properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with well-known emergent pseudo-magnetic fields corresponding pseudo-Landau levels (pLLs). We design one type zigzag GNR (ZGNR) reverse strains, producing opposite signs in lower upper half planes. Therefore, electrons propagate along interface as "snake states", experiencing Lorentz forces they cross zero field border line. By using Landauer-Buttiker formalism combined nonequilibrium Green's function method, existence robustness strain-induced snake states are further studied. Furthermore, realization long-thought pure valley currents monolayer systems is also proposed our device.

Inhomogeneous strain-induced half-metallicity in bent zigzag graphene nanoribbons
Realization of half-metallicity in low dimensional materials is a fundamental challenge for nano spintronics, which is a critical component for next-generation information technology. Using the method of generalized Bloch theorem, we show that an in-plane bending can induce inhomogeneous strains, which in turn lead to spin-splitting in zigzag graphene nanoribbons and results in the highly desir...
متن کاملDisorder-induced gap behavior in graphene nanoribbons
We study the transport properties of graphene nanoribbons of standardized 30 nm width and varying lengths. We find that the extent of the gap observed in transport as a function of Fermi energy in these ribbons the “transport gap” does not have a strong dependence on ribbon length, while the extent of the gap as a function of source-drain voltage the “source-drain gap” increases with increasing...

متن کاملDivacancy-induced ferromagnetism in graphene nanoribbons
Zigzag graphene nanoribbons have spin-polarized edges, antiferromagnetically coupled in the ground state with total spin zero. Customarily, these ribbons are made ferromagnetic by producing an imbalance between the two sublattices. Here we show that zigzag ribbons can be ferromagnetic due to the presence of reconstructed divacancies near one edge. This effect takes place even though the divacan...
متن کاملSnake states along graphene p-n junctions.
We investigate transport in locally gated graphene devices, where carriers are injected and collected along, rather than across, the gate edge. Tuning densities into the p-n regime significantly reduces resistance along the p-n interface, while resistance across the interface increases. This provides an experimental signature of snake states, which zigzag along the p-n interface and remain stab...
